Pilates (Originally called Contrology) is a whole-body exercise system, based on the mind body connection. It strengthens while opening and balancing the entire body. The foundation of each and every movement is the core musculature. Pilates exercises lengthen muscles while strengthening them. In contrast, many other forms of exercise shorten muscles. In Pilates, even the small muscles that often get ignored get worked as well. Alignment and even movement are key principles in the Pilates practice. Pilates is about bringing awareness to and correcting the bad physical habits we have developed over time. Pilates Is not just an exercise system but it is a way of living and moving meant to bring a greater overall sense of well being to our lives.
